THE CORE 'PILOT' Prologue

And so begins by journey of the television show I have trapped in my head. I'm hoping bringing it to words on paper will help ease my mind. Although this isn't technically Paper... oh well.

While I should start with character description I'll just post that later. I can't get to all the characters before I start writing. Just remember, I love to hear people's opinion. New idea's can give me better direction. This show was inspired by many Warner Brothers Television shows. From Smallville, to Gossip Girl. From Gilmore Girls, to The Vampire Diaries, plus many more. I hope my readers enjoy the lovely fiction.

PROLOGUE

FROM BLACK:

DARIUS (V.O.)
Our world is not how most people see it. There are people among you who are not what they seem.

1. EXT. ECHO CITY STREETS – DAY

People of various types walk along a busy street. A blonde woman passes by the camera and her eyes flash an iridescent color. A man walking the other way too looks at the camera and his eyes flash an iridescent color.

DARIUS (V.O.)
What Scientists won’t tell you and what the government won’t admit is our planet is more than just the four dimensions you experience every day. Within our time and space is an array of other worlds.

FADE CUT TO:

2. EXT. OPEN PLAINS – DAY

CAMERA pans over a valley filled with molten rock and zooms toward a raging volcano.  Near the top of the volcano a hooded figure walks into a cave entrance. A gold staff in his hand.

DARIUS (V.O.)
Legends told over the millennia portray the many realms around us as weak and in need of protection from the evil that always comes to destroy.

FADE CUT TO:

3. INT. LARGE CASTLE – NIGHT

A Muscular man with bright glowing hands stands before a ruler/king.

DARIUS (V.O.)
But Like all great legends, good would fight back.

FADE CUT TO:

4. EXT. BATTLE GROUNDS – NIGHT

The Muscular man with two ‘super powered’ friends behind him fight against some dark evil villain.

DARIUS (V.O.)
And gifted individuals would rise bearing the mark of their destiny. They Would fight against the evil.

CAMERA zooms on Muscular man’s forearm where the CORE MARK is seen like a tattoo.

DARIUS (V.O.)
To keep the human race flourishing. They became THE CORE and were given a place of their own secured with magic.

FADE CUT TO:

5. INT. MIRROR ROOM – DAY/NIGHT

Muscular man stands around a large stone table with his ‘friends’ in a room filled with seven mirrors.

DARIUS (V.O.)
Though as time would tell evil would fall back and retreat and the time for THE CORE’S protection was no more. Creatures adapted, climates change…

CUT TO:

Quick Cuts of a
1. Sunny beach becoming frozen over with ice.
2. A volcano erupting in the middle of a forest and turning it into a valley of molten lava.
3. Tree’s bursting up through plains of grass.
4. Water flooding over islands and main lands.
5. A gas or fog flooding through a forest and killing anything living forcing the “futuristic” living up above the trees. (Some have wings and fly up.)
6. A sand storm completely covering over any form of lively hood creating a world of sand. Crossover between these cuts could look like some kind of wall, or force field that the camera is passing though.

DARIUS (V.O.)
And ordinary people evolved to protect themselves from everyday nature. Unlike the heroes of their tales however, powers were gained through necessity of survival…

CUT TO:

YOUNG MICHAEL kicking a ball in a soccer field. YOUNG JON comes up and steals the ball from YOUNG MICHAEL.

               YOUNG JON
You gotta kick the ball if you want to be on the team!

YOUNG MICHAEL runs away to behind the bleachers. As YOUNG MICHAEL cried storm clouds formed over the soccer field and lighting struck a near by tree. The P.E. coach rushes the kids off the field.

COACH
Soccer is over for now. We’ll have to continue class inside the gym.

YOUNG JON
But soccer is my favorite sport.

COACH
We’re going to play hockey inside instead.

CUT TO:

YOUNG STELLA waving good bye to her brother GRANT as he goes off to the army.

DARIUS (V.O.)
…while others remained dormant. And wouldn’t discover their abilities until they least expect it. Finally Devine power intervened to put a new Core into works, a Core of chosen ones unlike any in human history with a leader from unlikely origins. A leader whose abilities I myself am surprised for such a chosen honor as this.

Cuts of JON, MICHAEL and STELLA from young to present day.

The Best Big Brother

Jon walked into the kitchen to follow the scent of hot dogs and burned cheese. He came to see pots that over boiled, and oven excreting smoke, and an oven timer that continued to ding with no sign of stopping. Jon set his backpack in the nearest barstool and rushed over to turn the nobs of the stove and turn off the oven and timer. On the floor beside him was Emily who had fallen to pieces. With Sympathy and a slight chuckle Jon asked, “Sweetie, is everything okay?”
The little girl cried, I was supposed to make the big fancy meal but I couldn’t do it fast enough.” Jon kneeled and listened intently to the words in between each sob. “I never learned to do this right from mom. I wish she were still here.”
Jon embraced Emily tightly, “Don’t you worry about a thing. I will take care of this.” He pushed the hair out Emily’s face then helped her up to a barstool.
Emily watched as Jon put together a tasty meal including various spices in a meat sauce and boiling noodles to perfection. “There,” he said, “I’m sure who ever your date is will love spaghetti: an eleven-year-olds favorite.”

Emily smiled and grabbed dishes to set the table. They laughed together as they prepared and waited for Emily’s friend to arrive. “Thank you.” Emily said giving Jon one last big hug. “Thank you for being the best big brother.”

Directing Intrest

Wouldn't you know. Directing is actually something worth trying. IN the midst of learning all about writing scripts and teleplays I have discovered that the directing process could actually be quite fun. Although from what I've read, it is a lot of responsibility that I don't know if I could handle. With such a vivd imagination I can picture how scene's should play out in my head. Translating that to picture is hard but doable. But if I want a clearer picture of how I want the scene to be done, a storyboard is the way to go.
And wouldn't you know- storyboarding is a director's job.
But being in charge of communicating to the sound guy, lights guy, camera guy, and set guy, how can one person handle such a big task? It may be overwhelming when sitting here thinking about it, but the idea is actually intriguing. Imagine getting just picture, just the scene you wanted. It is like a delicate and complex piece of art.       HARAHH for Media Arts!!

Chaos

I am far too excited about this one! My third script! Inspired by James Roday's character from Psych. Hopefully nothing too much like any of their episodes though. This one is longer, but even I laughed while I was writing it. Too much fun! Also I used this image because it's real cool looking, nothing more.

FADE FROM BLACK:

INT. – LORI’S BEDROOM – NIGHT

Lori sleeps in her bed after a long days work. Just as she seems to have reached perfect peace her cellphone vibrates. She rolls her eyes when she see’s the name ‘Nick’ on the screen. She reluctantly presses ‘answer’.

Lori
What could you possibly want at eleven thirty at night?

Nick
Um. I uh. I wouldn’t have called if it weren’t an emergency.

Lori
Emergency? What’s going on?

Nick puts his hand on his head in REGRET.

SAMSH CUT TO:

A WATER COOLER is spilt over. Curtains ripped from the window are laying upon the ground.  AN ERNE is nocked over and ashes are spilt and smeared up into a pile. LORI is dressed in pajama’s and a dress coat and Nick dressed in a dress shirt, tie, and slacks covered in smudges of what looks like dirt and stands in silence evaluating the disaster.

Lori
(referring to the pile of ashes.) Are those?

Nick
Yes

Lori
Did you?

Nick
Yes.

Lori
And the Diamond?

Nick
Missing when I came in to get my jacket out of my locker. Lori! I don’t know what happened! I walked in like any normal night; the diamond was even there! I came back out.
(V.O.)
I backed up in shock and ran into the cooler.

NICK is shown backing up into the cooler and panicing as the water spills across the floor. He reaches for the nearest thing (Curtain) to clean it up.

Nick
(V.O.)
So I grabbed the curtain to start cleaning it up. That’s when my arm slipped…

NICK is shown scrubbing the tile with the curtain and slipping on his face, his hands knocking over the stand holding the erne of ashes.

Nick
That’s when I proceeded to pile up the ashes which let to a panic attack and me calling you.

Lori
Your lucky mom is already dead because if she were alive to find about this she would keel over dead!

Nick
Isn’t ‘keel over dead’ a little redundant?

Lori
Nick! (beat) We’ll have to call up Marty.

Nick
I don’t want to involve your boyfriend.

Lori
It’s too late.

Smash Cut to:

INT. – Marty’s dinning room - Night

Camera tilts up at Marty’s face sitting at the table, the coffee in his hand. Nick and Lori sitting across from him.

Marty.
You What!?

Nick
It’s not as bad as it sounds right?

Marty
Well as long as you haven’t tampered with the scene any more we can explain everything to Detective Gulag and he can take care of everything.

MARTY looks up to see NICK and LORI staring at each other with guilt.

Marty
You didn’t.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. - MUSEUM EXHIBIT – NIGHT

CAMERA pans left to right from Nick face, to Lori’s face, to Marty’s face. The Museum exhibit is spotless missing the stolen diamond, the erne of ashes, and a curtain on a window.

Marty
You did.

Nick
We should be okay. Right?

Nick walks around the room of the museum.

Nick
I mean we did great right? For not being cops we are awesome!

Marty
But the diamond is still missing! You guys didn’t take it right?

Nick
Of coarse not! We just- (trips) What was that?

Nick gets up to see a dead body on the floor.

Nick
Aaaaah!

Smash cut to:

EXT. – GALLERY – NIGHT

MARTY and LORI step out for air great panic. NICK follows them out.

Nick
Okay, Unexpected. But we can deal. We just have to-

Marty
Have to what! There’s a freaking dead body in there! I have to report this.

Nick and Lori
NO!

Nick
We do that we could all be accused of murder.

Lori
Then what are we supposed to do Nick?

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – GALLERY HALL – NIGHT

MARTY and NICK shove the dead body into the janitors closet with great strain.

Marty
I can’t believe we did that! (Exasperated)

Nick
It had to be done.

LORI comes in with rubber gloves and a trash bag full of bloody towels.

Lori
It’s all cleaned up.

SMASH CUT TO:

EXT. – COFFEE STAND – EARLY MORNING

MARTY and NICK and LORI walk from the coffee stand towards the gallery.

Nick
Now that we’ve had our coffee break I think we can go back and try to figure out properly how this should be dealt.

Marty
(Mumbling) We’re all going to Jail. We’re going to die and go to Jail.

Lori
Is that a cop?

Nick
Where?

Marty
Crap!

MARTY hides around the nearest corner of a building.

Marty
That’s my partner’s car. We really are going to jail!

Nick
Marty, no one is going to jail. You have to go talk to him, survey the situation. I’m sure everything will be fine.

MARTY roles his eyes, whines, the proceeds to walk down the side walk.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – GALLERY – MORNING

MARTY approaches DETECTIVE JAMES MADISON attempting to hide shakiness from the situation. Cops and forensics are swarming the scene.

Marty
Detective.

James
Officer Oakmont. Good to see you’re this morning. Have you been debriefed?

Marty
I have a good idea what’s going on.

SCARLET WINTERS walks over to MARTY and JAMES.

Scarlet
I can assure you the stolen jewel will be recovered. I wouldn’t say so if I wasn’t an expert.

James
Thank you miss Winters. Allow me to introduce to you my partner, Officer Oakmont.

Scarlet
(To Marty) How do you do?

Marty
Swell. (To James->) We’ve seriously got to talk.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – GALLERY HALLWAY – MORNING

JAMES, LORI, MARTY and NICK stand in a circle. JAMES has a look of great disappointment.

James
You fools! What have you gotten me into.

Nick
We really are sorry. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.

James
Well where did you but the dead body?

MARTY points to the janitor’s closet behind JAMES.

James
(beat) Okay. Here’s what we’re going to do.
(V.O.)
First we’ll lock officer Oakmont in a cell at the station.

MARTY is shown being thrown into a cell.

James
(V.O.)
Sorry Marty but you have a terrible poker face and we can’t risk this getting out. Now Lori will come with me to question the security guard

JAMES and LORI are shown knocking on a door. ERIC the security guard answers the door.

James
(V.O.)
and Nick, you’ll go with miss Winters with whatever lead she may have.

NICK and SCARLET step up to the janitors home.

Scarlet
The janitor is always the last one out. If anyone saw anything, it was one Jordon Cytec. (Knocks on door.) Mr. Cytec. My names is Scarlet Winters, I have a few questions regarding the closing of the gallery last night. (To Nick.) How are you involved in all of this?

Nick
Oh, I work at the gallery. Yesterday was my first day.

Scarlet
Awfully convenient.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – ERIC’S LIVING ROOM  - DAY

JAMES and LORI are sitting on the couch across from ERIC TOWSON.

James
Is there anything else you can tell us.

Lori
Did you see anyone there last night before you headed home?

Eric
Just Jordon, the janitor. He always is cleaning up when I head home.

JAMES’ phone rings.

James
Excuse me.

JAMES walks into the next room.

James
Detective Madison.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – GALLERY HALLWAY – DAY

VAL a forensic officer holds his phone in his right shoulder and a wallet in his hands.

Val
The dead body in the janitors closet is none other than the janitor himself. His name is Jordon Cytec. He was shot in the chest with a Glock. I’m thinking a 21 or a 22.

James
Thanks Val.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – ERIC’S LIVING ROOM – DAY

JAMES walks back in putting on his jacket.

James
The dead body in the janitors closet was identified as Jordon Cytec, the janitor.

Eric
He was in the closet?

James
Thank you for your cooperation Mr. Towson. (To Lori->) You might want to call Nick. I believe he and Miss Winters were on their way to Mr. Cytec’s home.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – JAIL CELL – DAY

MARLA an assistant at the police station walks down the hall of cell’s and see’s MARTY sitting alone.

Marla
Mr. Oakmont?

Marty
Don’t worry about me Marla. I’m just taking a break.

SMASH CUT TO:

EXT. – JORDON CYTEC’S APARTMENT – DAY

NICK and SCARLET are sitting around waiting.

Nick
Obviously he’s not here.

Scarlet
Which can only mean one thing.

Nick
He has a girlfriend and stayed at her place for the night?

Scarlet
He stole the diamond and the Richmond Erne.

Nick
You don’t know he stole the Erne. He could have accidentally broken it on his way out.

Scarlet
Why would he have bothered to clean it up if it had simply broken?

Nick
Maybe he has O.C.D.

NICK’S phone rings.

Nick
Yeah?... Good news?... So I’m in the clear. Fantastic. I’ll meet you there. (Hangs up and turns to Scarlet.) Well, the case apparently has been solved.

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. – GALLERY HALLWAY – DAY

JAMES, LORI, and NICK all stand gathered.

James
I know who murdered Jordon. (beat.) I also know where the Diamond is.
(V.O./narration)
(visual is set up like a security camera)
Jordon Cytec stole the diamond and stashed it so he could take it another day when he would have an alibi.

Jordon is seen taking the diamond and putting it in the water tank.

James
(V.O.)
Eric Towson, the security guard saw this take place and confronted probably telling him it was a bad idea.

Eric is seen arguing with Jordon.

James
(V.O.)
The two of them hear Nick coming in to get his jacket from his locker and hide in the janitors closet. Then follows the mess Nick made after flipping out about the missing diamond. (Smash cuts of what already happened but shorter.) When Nick stepped out to call Lori (Quick cut of Nick on the outside) Eric and Jordon searched for the diamond in the mess of the cooler but couldn’t find it. Later, after you two cleaned up the mess that Nick made, Eric and Jordon struggled and Eric shot Jordon and left him there.

JAMES walks into the main part of the gallery continuing his story.

James
That’s when Eric made a run for it, Nick tripped over the dead body, and Lori had to continue cleaning up, valuable evidence I might add.

Nick
Wait, so where’s the diamond?

James rests his arm on the water cooler, waiting for one of them to get it.

Lori
There’s more than one water cooler!

Nick
Buy how did you know that? And how did you know I tripped over Jordon’s dead body?

James
The entire thing was taped on the security camera. (quick cut of a security camera.) You’re lucky I’m the only one who saw it. Nick, don’t ever work in a place with valuables ever again. You invite Chaos around you.

Lori
What do we do now?

James
How’s lunch. I’m pretty hungry.

FADE TO BLACK.

FADE FROM BLACK:

INT. – JAIL CELL – NIGHT

Marty is still alone in the cell and pulls his phone.

Marty
Hey James, I know this may be a bit of an inconvenience but if you happen to stop by the station I would really like to be let go. That is if you’ve solved the murder already. I’ll just wait here for you. Alone. In the dark.

CUT TO BLACK.
